Now that I have decided on getting a website, where do I begin?

That is a common question.  Most of the difficulty is with the vocabulary, once you get beyond the new words, the whole process is much easier.

The steps to building a website are outlined here.  FairWeather Webs will be glad to help you with any or all of these tasks.

1) The first step is a domain name.
The domain name is the name of your site.  FairWeatherWebs.com is the domain name for this site.  Each domain name must be registered, and therefore unique.  Choose a name that makes sense for your business or needs, and one that is easy to remember.

We can help you register your domain name for $10 per year.  More info.

2) Someone to host the site.
The hosting service has the computers (web servers) that store your website and make it available to the internet.   The web hosting costs depend on the type of site and the amount of traffic or hits.  The more people that go to your site, the more it costs, and if you have special services (like online purchasing) then these will cost more.  The good news is that a basic web site with even up to 20 pages can cost as little as $5 a month.  We a few added services (secure online commerce, traffic monitoring, etc) it can still be about $15 a month.

We can help with web hosting.  More info.

3) Create a site
Your website should be a reflection of what you do.  The colors and graphics are important considerations, but not the only considerations.  Think about how you want your site to look.  Make note of other sites that you like, and try to determine why you like those sites.   Think about your needs, the services you offer, products that you want to sell, or the information that you need to convey.  Make sure that when someone comes to your site, they know what your site is for.

FairWeather Webs will be very willing to help you with all of these decisions.  We will consult with you for free to make sure that we both know which direction to go before it costs you anything.  We will help you in deciding which package works best for your needs.

4) Your Web Site.
Your input does not end with the consultation.  All of our customers sites are put live on FairWeatherWebs, com until the customer approves the design.  You will be able to view the site at all of the mile posts along the way.  Your thoughts and ideas will go into the site to truly make it a reflection of your business or service.

5) Maintenance.
Maintenance is a very important part of keeping a website vibrant.  Stale information will keep visitors from returning.  FairWeather Webs strives to create sites that are easy to maintain.  We offer maintenance at hourly rates.

6) Pricing.

We have a standard web page and “add ons” to help you create the website that you need.   Please see the Services page.
